Why I'm Taking a Vacation Right in the Middle of It All

If you've been following along lately, you may have noticed that life has been a little... full.
Burton & Beyond is beginning to take shape. New hosts are joining. New experiences are being added. The Journal is growing with stories from people who make our community so special. Flown The Coop Stays is welcoming guests. Destination Burton continues working to shine a light on everything our little town has to offer.
On paper, this seems like the worst possible time for taking a vacation.
But maybe it's actually the best.
For years, I've worked in hospitality. One thing I've learned is that vacations aren't simply about taking time off—they're about reconnecting with the people and places that matter most. They're about slowing down long enough to notice the conversations around the dinner table, the quiet mornings with coffee, the laughter that happens when no one is rushing to the next thing.
Ironically, it's easy to spend so much time creating those experiences for others that we forget to experience them ourselves.
This week, Jeff and I are packing our bags
We are heading to the British Virgin Islands with friends. We'll be sailing on a chartered catamaran.
If you know us, you know we have completely different packing styles. I'm the one making lists days ahead of time, carefully thinking through every outfit and "just in case" item. Jeff? He'll probably throw everything into a suitcase the morning we leave and somehow have exactly what he needs.
Different approaches.
Same goal.
Neither of us is traveling just to check another destination off a list. We're going because we want to be present. We want to slow down. We want to feel like locals, linger over meals, discover hidden places, and spend uninterrupted time with the people we love.
That's the kind of experience Burton & Beyond was created to inspire.
Not just a trip.
A vacation.
There's a difference.
A trip is about getting somewhere. A vacation is about allowing yourself to be somewhere.
As much as I love building businesses and creating new ideas, I also know that creativity doesn't thrive when we're constantly running.
Some of the best ideas come while sitting on a porch overlooking the water, wandering through a small-town bookstore, or taking a walk with no agenda at all.
So yes, Burton & Beyond will continue growing while I'm away. I'll still check messages when I can. But for the next several days, my priority is something that can't be scheduled or optimized.
Making memories.
When I return, I'll come back with fresh ideas, renewed energy, and probably a few stories worth sharing.
Until then, I hope this serves as your reminder that rest isn't something you earn after everything is finished.
Sometimes it's exactly what allows you to finish well.
See you soon,Tiffany
P.S. While I'm away, I hope you'll spend a few minutes exploring Burton & Beyond. Read our latest Host Spotlight featuring Judith Richey, discover the experiences that are joining the marketplace, and maybe even start planning your own slow, meaningful getaway. After all, that's what this has always been about.
